Unboxing Treasure: Late 1860s Bodice
While unboxing this beautiful fuchsia (or magenta) antique bodice, I wondered when this bodice would have been made. The listing on Witchy Vintage said it was from the 1860s, but I needed to investigate.
Given the deep dive on the early to mid-Victorian fashion rampage I went on in my previous video, I knew this must have been from the 1865s to 1868.
To compare the MET Dresses:
Peach French Dress (questionable date)
Mme. Olympe Evening Dress (questionable date)
All these dresses have these similar qualities:
-
Buttons down the front
-
Fitted sleeves with hem slashes
-
Significant trimming on bodice (Bows, Ruffles, Piping)
-
Back Bodice details (peplum hem, split tails, accent bow)
Of these examples, the bodice looks most similar to the 1867 examples from the House of Depret.
What do you think?
