About Me

Updated: Aug 4, 2022

Fabrics don’t make exquisite dresses, it’s the stitches.

When you hear the phrase, “historical costume designer,” what comes to mind?

Undoubtedly, you might be confused at first. However, in this blog I hope to enlighten and inspire you to get creative.

My name is Elise. I love history, and I’m passionate about psychology, my first love is writing, my greatest joy is sewing, and research is my solace.

In order for you to be prepared for the types of content I will post here, I will try to keep everything straight forward, to the point, easy to understand, and hopefully add some interest and some insightful tid-bits of the history of fashion and recreating ornaments of the past.

I enjoy delving into old-world fashion and understanding the history, purpose and reasons behind why people wore what they wore, when they wore it… and what caused fashions to change. Before I plan any project or design any costume, I spend hours, sometimes even weeks, conducting research on a single garment. I find joy in studying thousands of images of a garment and the process of striving to recreate it from scratch.

Nearly everything I create is self drafted, and I ask, not to be distributed without my permission.

Please enjoy and be engaging! I’d love to get to know my fellow historical costuming community.

See you next week,

-Elise
